OMG, coming into China was very exhausting. We got an evening flight which arrived an hour late, then after following an airport workers direction to pre-scan our fingerprints, ended up at the back of the queue for immigration. When we finally got through, we couldn't even find our luggage because they had taken down the sign for our flight - we were the last on our plane to collect it somehow! Anyway, finally, through the airport we finally reach a taxi, now 12am, and show our driver our hotel location - with Chinese directions - and he says OK. So, we take the taxi and then halfway there he starts a massive detour and even after we show him the map on our phone - in Chinese - he continued to drive the wrong way for a bit before finally doing a very long-winded turn back in the right direction. We remain unsure if he simply didn't know or scammed us but we paid near double what I expected - at 98 yuan its more expensive than a taxi in Korea for that distance. Lesson learnt? - Get an earlier flight to Shanghai if possible, then you can take the train into Shanghai for 3 yuan per person. Anyway our hotel was nice and we watched some Chinese idol show on the room's TV while eating Chinese instant noodles.
